THIS IS COORDINATED DISINFORMATION FROM JOHN DEERE TO STOP LEGISLATORS FROM PURSUING ACTUALLY USEFUL RIGHT TO REPAIR LEGISLATION
The "Right to repair" allows John Deere to withhold access to parts and equipment for "safety reasons". That's corporate double speak for "we can arbitrarily decide which parts we make available, entirely at our own discretion." Additionally, parts are ONLY available from John Deere, and NOT being made available from third party vendors. This means John Deere can simple throttle availability of parts, forcing you to go to John Deere for repairs. Additionally, the American Farm Bureau Federation, the organization that John Deere coordinated with for this, is well known for opposing right to repair legislation. Probably the most damning part of this is THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATION TO FOLLOW THROUGH ON THESE "PROMISES".
It states that the American Farm Bureau Foundation “agrees to encourage state Farm Bureau organizations to recognize the commitments made in this MOU and refrain from introducing, promoting, or supporting federal or state Right to Repair legislation that imposes obligations beyond the commitments in this MOU.”
